Travel Adventures: Notre Dame in Paris

When visiting Paris for the first time there is so much to see, or try to see.  We only had 3 days and one of the places I really wanted to visit was Notre Dame.  I love gothic architecture and have wanted to see this church since I can remember.  We, unfortunately, arrived too late in the day to gain access up the tower to the roof to view the gargoyles.  I guess we had to save something for another trip.

One of the challenges when travelling to such a well known landmark is to take photographs that are not just poor reproductions of famous postcards.  Of course, I did take the traditional exterior shots of the building and the classic interior shots of the interior stained glass.  But I wanted to take some less common photographs of Notre Dame as well.  Fortunately, Notre Dame is one of the few churches in Europe that will allow cameras inside.  This gave me some really different views of the place.

Liked your pictures of Paris, Doug. There must be more though? I’ve been all over Europe but never to Paris. One day, maybe.

Thanks John. Yes, there are more pictures of Paris and I will be posting them in the next little while. Also London, Rome, Florence, Malta, Barcelona, and other places we hit on our whirlwind 3 week tour.

Lovely, glad you were able to see some of the insides. We were suppose to go to Paris in the summer 2010 after we were in London but unfortunately it had to be postponed. It is god to know they allow cameras in there for the future when we will go. It would be great to get a HDR image!

I tried taking a few bracketed images for HDR a-la Trey Ratcliff, but they didn’t turn out as I would have liked. I didn’t take a tripod and my ISO was a bit too high for getting good HDR images. I am not sure if tripods are even allowed in the church, though I do not recall any signs at the door prohibiting them.

Paris is so beautiful! There is not city in the world like this one!
