Kangaroo Island off the southern coast of South Australia is a fascinating place to visit. You can tour about the entire island in a couple of days and find plenty of sites that are unique to that part of the world. One of the most memorable places I had the opportunity to visit while touring the island is a place called Seal Bay. It is named such because of the large number of Australian Sea Lions that congregate on the beach. The area is a protected sanctuary, and you need to be led down to the beach by a certified guide.
The beach is where exhausted sea lions drag their land-awkward, exhausted bodies onto land to collapse and sleep after a two or three day extended fishing expedition out at sea. There the sea lions become both predator and prey as they hunt their favourite foods and try to avoid becoming meals for the great white sharks that hunt them.
This little fellow was wandering around the boardwalk checking us out while his mom was sleeping in the sand.
Kangaroo Island is a place you should put on your itinerary should you ever make it to South Australia.
